Iktomi Series- Diabetes Education
Using the traditional Upper Plains legend as a comic character, the Story of Iktomi was produced for the Standing Rock Diabetes Program.
The animated CD introduced viewers to Iktomi the Trickster as he finds out he has diabetes. Aberdeen Area Indian Health Service has continued the series with 3 additional Iktomi CDs covering the topics of mental health, footcare and nutrition.
The CDs follow the curriculum of diabetes education used by the Indian Health Service, but by using the story of Iktomi, they are able to present this important information in a way that is entertaining and involves the viewer through storytelling and interactive questions after each chapter.
